Ramen Arashi

@ramenarashibanff⁣3rd floor #213 Sundance Mall, 215 Banff Ave, Banff⁣⁣⁣Almost forgot I shot these! 🤦🏻‍♀️ The last of my little road trip to the mountains before the first snowfall!⁣ I’ve made a post about this restaurant before, and because we were visiting Banff, we had to have it again. Food is just as good as I remember it, and this time, we had #takoyaki ! ⁣⁣When we went, they were only open for takeout. They’ve since opened up for dine-in!⁣⁣Of course, this time I had to give it a proper photo/video shoot 😉⁣⁣More info:⁣www.ramenarashi.com⁣⁣#helencaneat Originally published on Instagram on October 23, 2020

Seniore’s Pizza

@seniorespizzayyc ⁣176 Bedford Dr NE #7, Calgary⁣⁣⁣A must order while in #yyc⁣⁣Think you’ve had the best donair pizza?…Not if you haven’t had Seniore’s. Trust.⁣ [$17.95] Medium 12” Beef Donair Pizza – Kinda greasy, kinda heavy, but so fricken delicious. The donair sauce they use is super flavourful, meat is good, and you can choose to add tomatoes and red onions. I like tomatoes, but we were bringing this back to #yeg , so didn’t want the pizza getting soggy. You can also get some sauce on the side to dip it into while eating. 😋⁣⁣Be warned, you’ll be in a bit of a food coma, but it’ll be totally worth it 😂⁣⁣For more info:⁣www.seniorespizza.ca⁣⁣#helencaneat Originally published on Instagram on October 18, 2020

Black Sheep

@blacksheepyyc ⁣140-815 17 Ave, Calgary⁣⁣Black Sheep is a common favourite amongst my group of close friends, so I couldn’t pass up the opportunity when we made the stop in Calgary. ⁣ [$3/ea.] Classic – A good intro to their freshly made croissants if you’re not feeling too adventurous, though, if you mess up a classic…tsk tsk. Exterior is slightly crispy, but the interior is super soft and fluffy. Texture was perfect. ⁣⁣[$3.75/ea.] Pain au choclat – Although the piece of chocolate looks small, but it is incredibly flavourful. I think had it been throughout, it might have been too overpowering and too sweet if they flavour was throughout. [$4/ea.] Raspberry – Their best seller, and it’s easy to see why. Raspberries are my personal favourite type of berry, so the fact they had this incorporated into a croissant filled with in house made jam had me super excited to eat this. Everything about this croissant was perfect for me, and I think it’s my favourite of the three. ⁣⁣[$2/ea.] Madeleine – I think this was my first time eating this, so I had no idea what to expect. Top was pretty firm and the bottom I think was like solid piece of chocolate. Flavour was pretty good, but I think because I was expecting a soft texture, it threw me off a bit.⁣⁣I’d definitely go back again. I’d like to go back and also try their other croissant flavours😊⁣⁣For more info:⁣www.black-sheep.ca⁣⁣#helencaneat Originally published on Instagram on October 10, 2020

Tooloulou Breakfast

@tooloulous⁣204 Caribou St, Banff⁣⁣⁣A restaurant serving Southern & Louisiana flavours, but I went in for their breakfast…😂 – I can’t say no to that. I’m a breakfast all day errday kinda person.⁣ [$15.95] Pork Belly Benedict – Think this one stood out to me most at a quick glance down the 🍳eggs benedict section of the menu. I prefer shredded hash browns normally, but the chunky hash browns weren’t bad as the exterior had a slight crispiness to it. The pork belly was pretty good, but I think the dish on its own wasn’t anything special. ⁣⁣[$16.95] New Orlean’s Breakfast – The portion size of this crazy, kind of reminds of Denny’s. I’d say on its own, this was probably more food than the eggs benedict I ordered. The eggs, breakfast sausage, and pancake were good, but also nothing special.⁣⁣Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying the meal was a disappointment. But as someone who loves breakfast food, there wasn’t anything in particular that stood out aside from the pork belly.⁣⁣For next time, I definitely want to try something sweeter like the 🥞pancake/crepe/french toast. It was a bit of a dilemma choosing between those, or my go-to eggs benedict, as their selection of and variety of sweet breakfast choices were decent. I had plans for desserts literally right after, so I had to choose wisely.😂⁣⁣For more info, visit:⁣www.tooloulous.com⁣⁣#helencaneat Originally published on Instagram on September 29, 2020

Big Bite Detroit Pizza & Donair

@bigbitedetroitpizzagelato16620 – 71 Street, Edmonton⁣ [$22] M, Angry Donair – For presentation purposes, I chose not to include the iceberg lettuce in the shots as I thought it would just cover up the pizza too much. It’s also packed separately when ordering for take out to prevent the pizza from getting soggy. The crust was on the thicker side, and as you can see, they’re pretty generous with the toppings. With the lettuce, it added a slight “freshness” as the pizza itself was already quite heavy. The pizza itself was good as it has a balance of proteins and vegetables – this girl can’t do a pizza of only meat…but will eat an all 🧀cheese pizza 🤣🤣⁣⁣[$21] M, Nice 2 Meat U – Another order loaded up with lots of meat 😉 I enjoyed the globs of ricotta as it added some creamy texture to the pizza without it being too overwhelming. I love having onions on my pizza since it adds a nice subtle crunch that’s different from the crispiness of the crust.⁣⁣Of the two, I think I enjoyed the Angry Donair more for the vegetables alone. I was desperately trying to find a pizza with 🍄mushrooms (my preferred vegetable topping), but no olives😂 ⁣⁣The price is a bit steep and wouldn’t be my pizza of choice on a daily, however, if you felt like treating yourself out once in awhile or want to try something new, this is a great option. ⁣⁣For more info:⁣www.bigbitepizzadonair.ca⁣⁣#helencaneat Originally published on Instagram on September 22, 2020

Hawaiian Poke & More

@pokeandmorecanada⁣7256 101 Ave, Edmonton⁣ Craving some poke? This place offers salmon and tuna poke in your choice of eight (8) different flavours. [$14.25/half lb tuna, $16.25/ half lb salmon] POKE BOWL⁣Poke and base come packed separately, and by default, you can get it with either white rice or shredded cabbage. For $1 more, you can upgrade your base to either mixed green salad, brown rice, or french fries. ⁣⁣We went with white rice, and got a half pound of salmon in wasabi sauce, and tuna in spicy mayo. Both were very delicious and very satisfying – I love how incredibly flavourful the poke was without being overly drenched in sauce. For those who enjoy the tako wasabi from Dorinku, will also like the wasabi sauce – same idea, but imagine with a more elevated wasabi flavour. Think next time we could even just order the poke itself and make the rice at home 😉⁣⁣[$3.50/ea] Crunchy Spam Musubi – We ordered the regular, but because they ran out, they offered these instead. The fried exterior was perfectly fried, but not overly crispy that it hurts your gums. Definitely feels a heavier as it’s deep fried and spam is usually higher in sodium – still tasted good! Hopefully next time they’ll have the regular.⁣⁣Any one else struggle with deciding between trying some new eats, or getting something you’ve had and craving??🤣⁣⁣For more info:⁣www.hawaiianpokeandmore.com⁣⁣#helencaneat Originally published on Instagram on September 14, 2020

Tsujiri West Edmonton Mall

@tsujiri_wem @tsujiri_alberta⁣8882 – 170 Street, Edmonton⁣⁣⁣I’ve been hooked onto anything houjicha lately. So glad they’ve decided to open a store in @official_wem ! ⁣ [$6.75] #21 COLD Houjicha Latte – My current go to order until I feel adventurous enough to try other drinks. I like the depth of flavour the roasted tea has. They also offer lattes using lactose free milk, which is awesome if I forget to pack my lactase pills 🤣 Also, the portion size of the drink is also pretty generous as well.⁣⁣[$6.75] #20 COLD O-Matcha Latte – As you would expect, it tastes just like matcha should. Has a slight creaminess from the milk, and enough sugar to satisfy your sweet tooth. You can order this drink as well as the houjicha hot too.⁣⁣[$6.95] Double Cheesecake – The best of both worlds, a layer of matcha flavoured cheesecake, and a regular cheesecake on the bottom half (I think?😂) Their cakes aren’t overly sweet, and the texture is like butter. The potency of the matcha flavour is also just right.⁣⁣[$5.95] Matcha Cheesecake – If you really love matcha, this cheesecake would be for you out of the two. Just like the other, it is just as soft and slices like butter. I personally didn’t think the matcha flavour was overpowering at all (I mean, if you ordered this, you must really like matcha to begin with…).⁣⁣[$4.85] Houjicha Roll Cake – Probably my favourite of them all, for obvious reasons – not to say the cheesecakes were bad at all! If you like the flavour of houjicha, you’ll like this. I love the balance of flavours between the tea and the sweetness of the roll. A definite favourite of mine.⁣⁣For more info:⁣www.tsujirialberta.com⁣⁣#helencaneat Originally published on Instagram on September 7, 2020

YEG Heritage Festival 2020

@yegheritagefest⁣📍@xobistrobar⁣10235 – 103 St, Edmonton⁣⁣For the month of August, #YEG ‘s Heritage Festival has gone online! If you check out their website below, you’ll see all the restaurants participating and the pavilions they represent (listed in chronological order). ⁣⁣https://www.mcmonth.ca/order-food⁣ XO Bistro is one of my favourite Vietnamese restaurants in the city. I love that they offer actual oxtail in their noodle soup (let a girl know if there are others!), and it’s even in their poutine!⁣ [$13.75] Oxtail Fries – This order alone wins me over. Not only is it a poutine, but it also has oxtail, a sunny side up egg, and fries. The oxtail gravy is given in a separate container so the fries don’t get soggy on the commute back home – fries were still very crispy!😍😍⁣⁣[$3/ea.] Skewers – You have the choice of chicken, beef, shrimp, or pork neck skewers; we ordered beef. These skewers are extremely meaty and flavourful. It comes with peanut sauce on the side as well.⁣ [$13.75] Pho with rare beef – A good classic. I like how the noodles are perfectly cooked. Like most noodle soups, the soup is in a plastic bag, and stored in a container to ensure nothing spills. The raw beef is also wrapped in plastic so the blood doesn’t You have the choice of adding more protein – oxtail costs extra. ⁣⁣[$13.75] Bun Bo Hue – Another popular one. Wasn’t too spicy at all, and the texture of the noodles were also perfectly cooked. If you order online, you can also choose what meats to add.⁣⁣For more info, visit:⁣https://xobistrobar.com⁣⁣#helencaneat#gifted Originally published on Instagram August 25, 2020

Splash Poke – Sushi Bake

@splashpoke⁣4112A Calgary Trail, Edmonton⁣⁣It’s been a loooooooong time since I’ve had poke, and what better way to try it again, than to experience it at #YEG ‘s first Hawaiian poke restaurants!⁣⁣The poke bakes were newly introduced shortly after the nation wide lock down. ⁣⁣I will say, the poke bakes were smaller than I expected (mind you, I tend to overeat), but the three we ordered was the perfect amount for the two of us.⁣ You can choose from four pre-designed flavours. You can either broil the top or lightly torch it if you want to avoid cooking the surface. Each take home poke bake comes with four sheets of seaweed. Of course, if you run out of seaweed (or if you have your own), you can eat it as is with the rice.⁣⁣[$13.45] Miso Salmon Bake⁣[$12.95] Spicy Tuna Bake⁣[$12.95] Chop Chop Bake⁣⁣We decided to go with the salmon, tuna, and chop chop – we wanted to try each protein on its own. All three were incredibly flavourful. There’s quite a mix of different textures going on from a combination of the rice, poke, sprinkle of fried onion that comes on the side, and the crunch of the seaweed as well. Personally, I enjoyed the spicy tuna and chop chop the most.⁣⁣For more info, visit:⁣www.splashpoke.com⁣⁣#helencaneat Originally published on Instagram on August 21, 2020

Dagu Rice Noodle – New Coconut Drink Series

@daguyeg⁣10408 Jasper Ave, Edmonton⁣⁣⁣Dagu has come out with some new 🥥 coconut flavoured drinks!⁣ eft to right [From $7.99] : Coconut Milk Tea, 🍍 Pina Coloda, Taro Coconut Latte, and Coconut 🍉 Watermelon Slush.⁣⁣Honestly, I don’t think there’s been a drink that I’ve tried that isn’t good. I like how their drinks use real fruits (not a fan of powdered drinks) and fresh ingredients. It’s hard to pick a favourite from this series since all four were uniquely different. The drinks containing fruit were very refreshing, and the other two were nice and creamy. Definitely worth trying!⁣⁣For more info, visit:⁣www.daguyeg.ca⁣⁣#helencaneat#gifted Originally published on Instagram on August 13, 2020
